Berlin is a multicultural city with 500,000 people from 185 countries living here. 14 per cent of Berlin's population comes from countries other than Germany.
In 1906, the Second Radio Telegraph Convention was held in Berlin, during which its participants decided to introduce a single radio-telegraphed distress signal. It was the SOS known to all of us - "three dots, three dashes, three dots" on Morse code. Until 1999, this was the main signal of wrecking ships calling for help.
