In 1817, the French writer Henri Stendhal, walking the streets of Florence, was literally speechless, due to the strong emotional excitement caused by the striking aesthetic beauty of the city. Later, the symptoms of dizziness, heart palpitations, panic attacks and severe emotional shock caused by works of art were called Stendhal's symptom.
