Samara

Space history: Samara has a strong connection to the Russian space industry. The city is home to the Progress Central Design Bureau, which designs and manufactures launch vehicles and spacecraft. The Soyuz launch vehicles, which are still in use for launching spacecraft today, were developed here. Samara also has a space museum dedicated to the history of astronautics.

Geographic feature: Samara has the longest embankment in Russia and one of the longest in the world - the Volga embankment, stretching about 5 km (3.1 miles).
